  • Biography Richard Gold founded the Pongo Teen Writing Project, a nonprofit that offers therapeutic poetry programs to adolescents who are homeless, in jail, or in other ways leading difficult lives. Many Pongo authors have suffered childhood trauma, including abuse and exposure to violent death. And many Pongo authors use poetry to communicate about these experiences for the first time. In its 16 years, Pongo has worked with over 5,500 teens, published 13 anthologies, and given away over 12,500 poetry books to distressed youth. The Pongo web site provides therapeutic writing opportunities for youth anywhere, as well as resources for counselors and teachers – www.pongoteenwriting.org . Before founding Pongo, Richard was managing editor of Microsoft Press. Richard’s own poetry, “The Odd Puppet Odyssey,” was published by Black Heron Press in 2003. In 2010, Richard was named a Microsoft Integral Fellow, honored for his work with Pongo, by the Microsoft Alumni Foundation.

She is currently living in SE Portland and is Secretary of the Board for the Portland Storytellers' Guild. She enjoys the personal exchange of storytelling and all that we can learn from it. She has performed in a range of venues from pubs to libraries and in between.

He has made four recordings, published five books, and had, for 20 years, directed Eugene's Multi-Cultural Storytelling Festival.

  • Biography Norm Brecke is a spirited storyteller who revels in telling a good story. His music, zeal, and humor add to any occasion. When Norm tells … people listen, and often join in. Norm specializes in folktales which he spices to make unique. His personal stories always reflect his Northwest roots. Norm is often accompanied by his guitar but sometimes plays ukulele, banjo, or mouth harp to add to his stories. Norm taught kindergarten for many years before moving to 4th grade. He tries to tell a different story in class every day. He also teaches storytelling to children after school. He has taught tall tales to cub scouts and placed 2nd in the Seattle Liar’s contest twice. He also teaches adults how to tell stories. Norm has told at bookstores, churches, parties, schools, retirement homes, campfires, stores, and Tellebrations. He’s a regular at the Northwest Folklife Festival.

  • Biography eff Leinaweaver is a sustainability consultant and teacher who is also a talented storyteller an d practiti oner of story. Jeff shares in the telling of the old stories – myths, folk tales and fairy tales from many different cultures around the world. He sees story as being alive; a vital source of wisdom that teaches us what it means to be human while simultaneously living in relationship with the living, natural world. Jeff uses his skills as a practitioner of storytelling and organizational narrative, blended with his scholarship, in applied practice in the fields of sustainability, strategic management, and corporate social responsibility. Jeff w orks from an eco-psycholo gical approach t o help others to tell stories that communicate, resonate and make better social worlds. Jeff holds a PhD in Human Development and Organizational Systems with a focus on narrative and storytelling and is a member of both the Seattle Storytelling Guild and The National Storytelling Network. He is a board member of the Mythsinger Foundation and studies the craft of mysthsinging with Danny Deardorff.

  • Biography Kathya Alexander is a writer, actor, playwright and teaching artist. She was a 2007 Writer-in-Residence at Hedgebrook's Women's Writers Retreat and won the 2002 Fringe First Award for Black to My Roots at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for Outstanding New Production in Edinburgh, Scotland. Kathya’s writing has appeared in Colors Northwest Magazine and she is the author of Angel in the Outhouse, God the Mother: A Creation Story, and the God the Mother Calendar. Kathya’s plays include David & Jonathan (a modern day re-telling of the biblical story) staged at The Seattle Rep in February, 2008; Dream’n (adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream-2007); HumaNature (choreopoem-2007); Homegoing (2006); Nappy Roots: A Fairy Tale (about hair and African American girls’ self-esteem); and Little Rock Nine (children’s play about the integration of Central High. Kathya is a member of the African American Writers Alliance and the Seattle Storytellers Guild.

  • Biography Brian Rohr is a poet, storyteller and healing arts practitioner who resides in the Pacific Northwest - a land of constant rain, Evergreen trees, mountains and the waters of the Pacific Ocean. In 2007, Brian left his hometown of Chicago and moved to Port Townsend, WA to study with Mythologist and Master Storyteller Daniel Deardorff. Since that time, he has found his gift and his home. Brian is an active Board Member of the Mythsinger Foundation and has shared myth and stories from different cultures with national and international audiences. He fully believes that the old stories are alive, vital and can inform us on how to live our lives as authentic human beings. Brian is married to his beloved Sarah.
