  • Biography Stirring and texturally rich traditional Scottish folk music is the creative passion of this Seattle-area vocal and instrumental ensemble. Oran nan Carr began in 1998 when four members of Seattle's Gaelic choir, Seirm sang together as they carpooled to choir rehearsals. They entered the vocal competition at Mod Vancouver in 1999 and had so much fun, they've been singing together ever since, adding instruments, various singers and several awards along the way. The groups name is the Scottish Gaelic idiom for "cantata", which also means "songs of the car" when an accent mark is added to Car. Oran nan Carr prides itself on being one of precious few US ensembles performing primarily in the endangered Scottish Gaelic language. Website: www.orannancar.com
